This design was named after one of the most famous South African dessert: the milktart. The milktart, or melktert in Afrikaans – one of the South African 11 official languages – consists of pastry stuffed with a creamy filling. The filling is made from flour, sugar, eggs and milk of course!  Now you get where this dessert got it’s milky name from!
